The Unicorn and the Garden
The Unicorn and the Garden
Mary Bartlett came to Dartington in 1963 as a horticultural student, and after her training she became responsible for the glasshouses, nursery and walled garden. She is the author of several books and is now the tutor for bookbinding in the Craft Education department.

About The Unicorn and the Garden, Mary says, "I have spent all my working life, over 50 years, on the Dartington Hall Estate, beginning in the gardens department and now teaching bookbinding. This book is a record of the 30 years dedicated to research about unicorns and a thank you to all those artists and crafts people who have helped. It began with the first enamel made by Gillie Hoyte Byrom over 30 years ago and celebrates a final piece in the puzzle, the making of a bronze unicorn with Andrew Lacey in 2014."
